Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge

Bon Secour Nature Preserve boasts more than 7,000 acres of protected land in five separate areas on the Fort Morgan Peninsula. This park offers access to miles of hiking trails, wildlife viewing, bird watching, fishing, and boating. As one of Alabama's last remaining undisturbed coastal habitats, Bon Secour is a haven for local flora and fauna. You'll see a variety of habitats like sand dunes, fresh and saltwater marshes, freshwater swamps, uplands, scrub forest, and more. 

The park is also home to endangered and threatened species like the Alabama beach mouse, nesting sea turtles, and more. The refuge is home to loggerhead and Kemp's Ridley sea turtles. 

Trails in Bon Secour are listed as easy, including the Pine Beach Trail, Jeff Friend Loop Trail, and Gator Lake Trail. 

Welcoming 100,000 visitors each year, the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge is both a natural resource for the public but also an educational center for students and scientists.
